Toyin Abraham’s Alakada Returns with New Sequel “Alakada! Bad and Boujee”

December in the cinemas is surely going to be fun-filled as film producer and actress  Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi  announces the return of the comedy series “ Alakada ” with a sequel titled “ Alakada! Bad and Boujee ” set for a December premiere. “Alakada! Bad and Boujee” will be the fifth film in the popular “Alakada” film series, after the first “Alakada” in 2009, the second “Alakada 2” in 2013, the third, “ Alakada Reloaded ” in 2017, and “ Fate of Alakada: The Party Planner ” in 2020. The series portrays a young girl,  Yetunde  (Toyin Abraham) from a poor family background with an inferiority complex who makes up stories and lies about her financial and social status to fit in with the crowd.

Fuel supply: 9,000 marketers may lose licences, seek FG’s intervention

As a result, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria is urging the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to extend its final deadline for licensing renewal to July. It also appealed to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority to release 9,000 already processed licences to its members. The association made the request known in a release signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Chief Chinedu Ukadike, on Thursday in Abuja. Naira depreciates to N1,365/$ in parallel market

  The Naira yesterday depreciated to N1,365 per dollar in the parallel market, from N1,320 per dollar on Tuesday. Similarly, the Naira depreciated in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM, to N1,402.67 per dollar. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for NAFEM rose to N1,402.67 per dollar from N1,390.96 per dollar on Tuesday, indicating N11.71 depreciation for the naira.   Consequently, the margin between the parallel market and NAFEM rates narrowed to N37.67 per dollar from N70.96 per dollar on Tuesday.

Nigerian man extradited from Malaysia convicted for $6.3m fraud in US

  A federal jury in New Haven, Connecticut, has convicted an extradited Nigerian, Okechukwu Osuji, for operating a business email compromise scheme out of multiple countries, including the United States.   The US Department of Justice made the revelation on Thursday, May 2, saying that Osuji and his accomplices, John Wamuigah and Tolulope Bodunde defrauded their victims of over $6.3 million. The jury convicted Osuji of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Man shot dead by police officer who tried to jump fuel queue in Lagos; police identifies officer responsible

  A police officer has gunned down a Lagos resident who prevented him from jumping the queue to buy fuel at a Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling station at Obalende in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.    Toheeb Eniafe was in the queue to get petrol on Wednesday evening, May 1, when two men, said to be police officers, attempted to drive into the station to buy petrol even though they were not in the queue to get the product.  This attempt by the police officers to jump the queue was met with stiff resistance from people in the queue who had been waiting for hours.   Eniafe was at the forefront of the resistance, telling the men to join the queue like everyone else.   This degenerated into a physical fight and one of the men shot Eniafe before fleeing the scene.  An angry mob was said to have chased and caught up with one of the officers but he later escaped after firing shots in the air.  On Thursday, May 2, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ben

Lagos state government uncovers another under-bridge 'apartments'

  The Lagos State government has uncovered another illegal settlement under the Osborne Bridge in Ikoyi.    The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab,  disclosed this in a post on X with videos.   He wrote,    “Another illegal settlement was discovered under the Osborne Bridge, Ikoyi.  Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) commenced immediate clearance operation.”   On Wednesday, May 1, LIB reported that the state government discovered 86 partitioned rooms beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, Lagos Island. The occupants were reportedly paying an annual rent of N250,000.

Lagos GDP hits N41trn, ranks 7th in Africa

  The Lagos State Government has revealed that its Gross Domestic Product, GDP, has moved from N27trn to N41 trillion within four years of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration. Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, disclosed this on Thursday, during the ongoing ministerial press briefing to commemorate the first year in office of the second term of Governor Sanwo-Olu, held at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. According to George, “Over the last couple of years, Lagos had face numerous challenges particularly when COVID 19 and Endsars struck.                                                                                                   

Alleged Naira abuse: Cubana Chief Priest and EFCC to settle out of court

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu aka Cubana Chief Priest, have agreed to settle the naira abuse charges slammed against him out of court.   The trial of the socialite continued at the Federal High court in Lagos on Thursday, May 2.    At today's sitting, both parties agreed to settle the matter out of court, after which the trial was adjourned to June 5 for the hearing of the settlement report.   LIB had earlier reported that EFCC on April 16 filed three count charges on Chief Priest for the alleged spraying and tampering of the Naira at an event at Eko Hotel on February 13th 2024, an event in Lagos in January 2024 and another event in 2020. He was then arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on April 17.     When the charges were read during court sitting, Chief Priest pleaded not guilty. FCT police arrests two women for child trafficking in Abuja (photos)

  The operatives of the FCT police command, on April 27, arrested two female suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, in connection with the trafficking of five children.    The suspects who attempted to escape arrest from Sokoto police operatives, were intercepted and arrested by FCT police operatives at Kagini junction, Abuja, while suspiciously conveying five (5) children into the Federal Capital Territory. Confirming the arrest to newsmen, the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement released, said the command has handed the suspects and victims over to Sokoto state police command for further investigation and onward prosecution.   She added that the Commissioner of police FCT, CP Benneth C. Obaseki increases minimum wage to N70k

  Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has announced a new  minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants .  The governor made this known on Monday, while inaugurating the Labour House. Obaseki named the Labour House after Adams Oshiomhole, Senator representing Edo North, and former governor of the state. The new minimum wage regime in Edo will take effect from May 1, 2024,” the governor said. Recall the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, have been pushing for a new minimum wage for workers across states. This is coming on the heels of the hardship occasioned by the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The removal of subsidy on petrol and unification of the forex windows in 2023, immediately led to food inflation and a spike in the prices of other goods and services. Gunmen assassinate Governor Aiyedatiwa's campaign coordinator in Ondo

  Unknown gunmen have killed Alaba Excel Abbey, one of the campaign coordinators of the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.   It was gathered that Abbey was also the Returning Officer for Ward 10 in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State in the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election.   The deceased who served as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), was shot dead in front of his house.   The deceased’s elder brother, Samuel Abbey, who confirmed the incident to Leadership, said Alaba was assassinated around 9 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024, shortly after returning home.    In a statement released by its State Information Director, Mr Kayode Fasua, the group revealed that the late Abbey was actively involved in campaigning for the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa until his untimely demise.   Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya sai
