FCCPC to scrutinise complaints against MTN, GTBank and Air Peace

Recall how GTBank experienced disruptions during the migration to a new  core banking system  in October 2024? The network failures left customers unable to access funds or use digital banking services. Well, it turns out the bank is now under scrutiny by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) due to the complaints made by customers.  FCCPC has initiated a thorough investigation into consumer complaints against GTBank and two other prominent Nigerian companies; telecom giant MTN Nigeria, and Air Peace Airline. Nigerian man accused of beating his wife to d3ath breaks silence; says she d!ed after childbirth, alleges negligence by her mother who forced her to deliver at home

A forensic auditor from Amaokwe Item in Bende LGA of Abia State, Mr. Samuel Chukwu, who is being accused of beating his wife, Jessica Olua, to d3ath, has denied the allegation, saying it is a false narrative to tarnish his image.      Jessica, 24, d!ed on August 21, 2024, shortly after childbirth and was laid to rest on November 29.      However, speaking with ABN TV, Mr. Chukwu said Jessica d!ed as a result of alleged negligence by her mother who he claimed “forced” her to give birth at home even though he had sent N25,000 to them to convey her to the hospital when she went into labour.      He also alleged that his in-laws assaulted him and his brother when they travelled to Aba to find out what led to Jessica's d£ath.     According to Chukwu, Jessica's mother allegedlyj deprived her of proper prenatal care during pregnancy, labour and delivery.       Chukwu, who got married to his wife in March 2023, said there was...

Man rapes his neighbour after hitting her with grinding stone

A man identified as  Michael Akinmolayan  has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping and assaulting a female neighbour in the Sango-Ota area of the state. The incident occurred on Thursday, November 28, 2024. Multiple reports claimed that Akinmolayan attacked the victim with a grinding stone, inflicting severe head injuries.  The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The Ogun State Police Command, upon receiving a report of the incident, swiftly dispatched officers from the Sango-Ota Division to the scene. The officers apprehended Akinmolayan and took him into custody. Holcim to exit Nigeria after selling 83% stake in Lafarge to Chinese firm

Holcim, the Swiss building materials giant, has announced its decision to sell its Nigerian business to Huaxin Cement Ltd., a Chinese firm, in a deal valued at $1 billion.    The agreement, which includes Holcim’s 83.81% stake in Lafarge Africa Plc, marks another major exit from the Nigerian market by an international firm.   “Holcim has signed an agreement with Huaxin Cement Ltd to sell its entire 83.81% shareholding in Lafarge Africa Plc, at an equity value of $1 billion on a 100% basis,” the company said in a statement on Sunday. “The transaction is expected to close in 2025, subject to customary and regulatory approvals.” Lafarge Africa, a member of the Holcim Group, is a key player in Nigeria’s construction industry, producing cement, construction aggregates, and ready-mix concrete. Police arraign 113 Foreign Nationals for alleged Immigration offences and cybercrime

The Nigeria Police Force has arraigned 113 foreign nationals before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges related to cybercrime, including computer-related fraud, marketing scams, money laundering, and unlawful access to data.   In a statement released on Monday, December 2, by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was revealed that the arrests were made on November 3, 2024, in a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Jahi.   Adejobi stated that the arrest followed an operation conducted by the National Cyber Crime Centre and Zone 7 Command.   Adejobi said that during the operation, police recovered a range of sophisticated digital equipment believed to have been instrumental in the syndicate’s cyber activities.   He said that items recovered items from them include laptops, smartphones, tablets, routers from multiple brands, a central processing unit, high-capacity servers, drones, multiple SIM cards, gaming devices, international passports, a...
