Four Nigerian students jailed in UK after fighting with knives and baseball bats

Four students of Nigerian descent have been sentenced for their involvement in a violent incident in Leicester, UK, that occurred on November 4, 2021. The altercation, which involved knives and a baseball bat, escalated into a large fight on New Park Street, leaving an 18-year-old man with four stab wounds that required hospital treatment.   After a detailed investigation involving CCTV analysis, phone tracking, and public appeals, the suspects were identified and brought to trial. A six-week trial concluded in October, with sentences handed down on November 14.   Detective Constable Sean Downey commented on the severity of the incident, stating,   “This incident highlights the serious danger of violent disorder. It is extremely fortunate that further injury was not caused to the people involved or to other members of the public who witnessed the incident. Tosin Adarabioyo undergoes Chelsea medical ahead of Stamford Bridge move

  Amid continuing interest in the ongoing trial of online platform, Binance and one of its Chief Executives accused of illegally trading in cryptocurrency in Nigeria, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has stated that due process is being applied at all stages of the trial in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Minister stated this in a statement to newsmen in    Abuja  on Wednesday, “At all stages, due process has been followed, and prosecutors are confident of their case based on the facts and evidence gathered. “Binance will have every opportunity to defend itself in court against these severe charges of financial crimes against the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Body of missing South African woman found buried in shallow grave, boyfriend arrested

  A 24-year-old woman who was reported missing in Eastern Cape, South Africa, has been found dead. Eastern Cape police confirmed that the body of Zintle Takane was found buried in a shallow grave in Fort Beaufort on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.  One person, believed to be her boyfriend, has been arrested in connection with Takane’s murder and is expected to appear in the Fort Beaufort Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, June 6.    Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said Takane was reported missing on Friday (May 31).  On Tuesday, police appealed to anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the police.  "It is alleged that Takane was last seen at around 9pm with her boyfriend in Mike Valley, Fort Beaufort,” Mawisa said.  “It is further alleged that she left with her boyfriend in his white Mercedes-Benz. That was the last time anyone had seen or heard from her. Her boyfriend could also not be traced for any information concerning her whereabouts.”  Police said

FG finally admits paying fuel subsidy

The federal government has finally admitted that Nigeria is projected to spend up to N5.4 trillion on oil subsidies in 2024.    This comes after months of repeated denials by government officials who insisted there were no subsidies.    The revelation came during a presentation by Wale Edun, the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy on an Accelerated Stabilisation and Advancement Plan (ASAP), designed to address key challenges affecting the reform initiatives and stimulate development in various sectors of the economy.   A draft copy report of the Accelerated Stabilization and Advancement Plan (ASAP) presented to President Tinubu by the finance minister, Wale Edun, on Tuesday, June 4, showed that the estimated expenditure on fuel subsidy for 2024 is N5.4 trillion, a sum of N1.8 trillion more than the amount spent in 2023. The ASAP was designed to address key challenges affecting the reform initiatives and stimulate development in various sectors of the economy.
