Emefiele, cronies acquired 753-duplex estate with forex kickbacks — EFCC

Court papers filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have linked the immediate-past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to the massive Abuja property with 753 duplexes and other apartments located in the Cadastral Zone area of the capital city. The anti-graft agency on Monday announced the recovery of the property from an unnamed ex-government top brass, describing the property as the biggest single recovery it had made in the course of fighting corruption since its establishment in 2003. The recovery followed a ruling delivered on December 2, 2024 by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court in Apo. Uchechi Kanu, wife of political activist and pro-Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, has described the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Political Wing as a sham.   The group had claimed that Kanu authorized its political wing to open negotiations with the Nigerian government on the future of South East Nigeria. Spokesman of the group, Emereonye Nwachukwu, said the move follows recent hopes raised in freeing Kanu by Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, Minister of State, Foreign Affairs. According to IPOB-PW, Nnamdi Kanu made this known through proxy meetings with people who have spoken to him in detention. FCCPC to scrutinise complaints against MTN, GTBank and Air Peace

The network failures left customers unable to access funds or use digital banking services. Man rapes his neighbour after hitting her with grinding stone

A man identified as  Michael Akinmolayan  has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly raping and assaulting a female neighbour in the Sango-Ota area of the state. The incident occurred on Thursday, November 28, 2024. Multiple reports claimed that Akinmolayan attacked the victim with a grinding stone, inflicting severe head injuries.  The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The Ogun State Police Command, upon receiving a report of the incident, swiftly dispatched officers from the Sango-Ota Division to the scene. The officers apprehended Akinmolayan and took him into custody. Holcim to exit Nigeria after selling 83% stake in Lafarge to Chinese firm

Holcim, the Swiss building materials giant, has announced its decision to sell its Nigerian business to Huaxin Cement Ltd., a Chinese firm, in a deal valued at $1 billion.    The agreement, which includes Holcim’s 83.81% stake in Lafarge Africa Plc, marks another major exit from the Nigerian market by an international firm.   “Holcim has signed an agreement with Huaxin Cement Ltd to sell its entire 83.81% shareholding in Lafarge Africa Plc, at an equity value of $1 billion on a 100% basis,” the company said in a statement on Sunday. “The transaction is expected to close in 2025, subject to customary and regulatory approvals.” Lafarge Africa, a member of the Holcim Group, is a key player in Nigeria’s construction industry, producing cement, construction aggregates, and ready-mix concrete. Police arraign 113 Foreign Nationals for alleged Immigration offences and cybercrime

The Nigeria Police Force has arraigned 113 foreign nationals before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges related to cybercrime, including computer-related fraud, marketing scams, money laundering, and unlawful access to data.   In a statement released on Monday, December 2, by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was revealed that the arrests were made on November 3, 2024, in a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Jahi.   Adejobi stated that the arrest followed an operation conducted by the National Cyber Crime Centre and Zone 7 Command.   Adejobi said that during the operation, police recovered a range of sophisticated digital equipment believed to have been instrumental in the syndicate’s cyber activities.   He said that items recovered items from them include laptops, smartphones, tablets, routers from multiple brands, a central processing unit, high-capacity servers, drones, multiple SIM cards, gaming devices, international passports, a...

Court dismisses Bobrisky’s fundamental rights suit against EFCC

Justice Alexander Owoeye of a Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights suit filed by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).   Bobrisky had sought N200 million from the EFCC for “psychotic trauma” and demanded N1 billion from the National Assembly for the “violation of his right to a fair hearing.” He also urged the court to restrain the EFCC and the National Assembly from “harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.” Delivering judgment on the case on Thursday, November 28, Justice Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims of rights violations lacked merit and were unsupported by credible evidence.   The EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.   “Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive r...
