Tiwa Savage and manager in public display of affection…Are they officially dating?

Image
Tiwa Savage is one of Nigeria’s most talented singers and songwriters. That she is beautiful is no news. She is an embodiment of sexiness and has a captivating aura and personality. Until recently Tiwa Savage had not been linked romantically with anyone, except if you count the rumoured-but -vehemently-denied relationship with Mavi n Records  boss Don Jazzy. Is that is about to change? The Mavin first lady was seen at the Elite Model Look 2012 recently held in Lagos in company of her beau Manager Tee Billz , and the pair looked like an Item – eye witnesses say they both stepped on the red carpet in style as they posed for photographs. Tiwa is usually alone on the red carpet so it really was a big deal this time, since she had company, as all attention quickly shifted to the couple, and the cameramen kept clicking away. Tiwa Savage and her manger Tee Billz seemed to enjoy all the attention, and he may have used that opportunity to pass on a message as she planted a so

Lagos turns Fela’s home into Kalakuta Republic Museum

The Lagos State Government has turned the house of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, into a museum to “promote cultural heritage and mark the 74th birthday” of the legendary musician. Inside the museum located at 8, Gbemisola Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, to be and managed by Total Consult, are Fela’s trademark items like dresses, shoes and household materials. The dresses are about 3,000. Others include covers of the albums of the late musician. Images on the album covers bear a variety of styles and typefaces which echo and comment on the works and politics of the artiste. According to the state Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-Government Relations, Mr. Disun Holloway, the Kalakuta Republic Museum is to bring back the old social life and culture to Lagos. He noted that it was impossible to overstate the importance of Fela to Lagos and the global musical village. He said, “It is only appropriate to have chosen a day as this to declare this monument open today to ma

UNIPORT FOUR: Victims not armed robbers – IGP

The Inspector General of police  Mohammed Abubakar has revealed that the four students of the University of Port Harcourt,  who were gruesomely killed by a mob in Aluu, a community in Rivers State on 5th  October were not armed robbers. The IGP, in a statement issued Monday in Abuja  explained that findings have shown that the victims were not armed robbers but had gone to the area where they met their unfortunate death to demand for money allegedly owed to them by one Coxson Lelebori Lucky, alias ‘Bright’, who raised a false alarm that the victims were armed robbers. The statement noted that Coxson has gone underground, even as it  stressed that detectives were on his trail. “Intelligence report also implicated Alhaji Hassan Welewa, as being the person who incited the mob to unleash terror on the victims. Further investigation conducted by the police indicates that four (4) suspects, namely: Felemo Solomon; Cynthia Chinwo; Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Samuel Evans h

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger aims to sign new striker in January transfer window

Image
Arsène Wenger has asked his network of scouts to search for another new striker ahead of the January transfer window as Arsenal continue the process of replacing Robin van Persie.    Although encouraged at how the goals have been spread more evenly around the team this season, Wenger would ideally still like further back-up to Olivier Giroud as the main centre-forward in his 4-2-3-1 system. Wenger has specifically told his scouts to be on the look-out for potential new attacking options over the coming months, with Fernando Llorente, Adrián López, Robert Lewandowski and Stevan Jovetic among those being monitored. The interest in signing another striker reflects an understanding that Giroud cannot be expected to instantly adapt to the Premier League, although his development over the next three months will inform how Wenger approaches the January market. Giroud scored his first Premier League goal in the 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday but ther

Facebook Celebrates 1 Billion People

Image
Facebook just reached 1 Billion members. A pretty amazing feat when you consider it's only been around for 8 short years. During that time it has completely changed the world we live in...well at least for the small niche billion of us who use it. But that makes it as good a time as any to reflect on how we use such a powerful tool. Over the past decade we've probably seen more vices than virtues on display regarding our use of social networks. But, like a young student with anything new, it can take some trial and error before one starts getting it right. And no matter what kind of expert you are on online social networking, we're all young students at it. One thing's for sure, however, it's not going away. The way we share and connect with each other has been changed forever. But, while the technology and format may be very new, the point of it all is not.  Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, says this about it: "For the first time in our histo

Nigeria’s Paralympics team ‘left stranded’ at Lagos airport

The athletes are demanding the same recognition as given to their able-bodied counterparts. Nigeria finished 22nd with a total of 13 medals – 6 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze at the Paralympic games. Their counterparts did not win any medal at the London Olympics. ‘ In our country, nobody regards us as anybody, nobody regards us as the specials, there is no budget for us. But in other countries when they are doing anything, their first consider the physically challenged people, the old ones but in this country there’s nothing like that ‘, Gold medalist in the Women’s +82.50 kg Powerlifting category, Gloria Anozie explained to Channels TV. ‘So we found that if you don’t wake up, fight for yourself, do something better for yourself, you are not going anywhere, so we motivate ourselves to do what we are doing’, she further explained.   By Osagie Alonge

Obama Got The Convention Bounce, As Well As Bad Economic Numbers

Image
The Democrats were no sooner out of Charlotte when the bad economic news came. A more disappointing job report than had been forecast. Economic numbers weaker than expected. Just 96,000 jobs were created in August, far fewer than what economists were anticipating. And even a lower unemployment rate — down to 8.1 percent from 8.3 — was explained as that more people had simply stopped looking for work. The hope of four years ago is quickly becoming a fading memory, especially for those whose lives have not seen the change Barack Obama once promised. Reality often can get in the way of a celebration, and that may be how we define the convention bounce of 2012. All the emotion and enthusiasm and memorable speeches of Charlotte have indeed resulted in a "bounce" for the president and his party. But how long does it last? Maybe a little trip down memory lane is in order.  by Ken Rudin

Serena Williams showed incredible resolve to outlast Victoria Azarenka and secure her fourth US Open title.

Serena Williams showed incredible resolve to outlast Victoria Azarenka and secure her fourth US Open title. The 30-year-old lifted her 15th Grand Slam singles crown - and fourth in New York - with a 6-2 2-6 7-5 win in 138 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium. World number one Azarenka served for the match, but Williams broke in a run of four ruthless games to triumph. She became the first player aged over 30 to win the US Open women's singles since Martina Navratilova in 1987. "I honestly can't believe I won," said the American. "I was preparing my runner-up speech because she was playing so great." Azarenka wept into a towel at the end as her dream of becoming the first Belarusian to win the US Open ended in agonising fashion "It's tough but Serena deserves to win," said the 23-year-old. "She showed what a true champion she is. "I'm honoured to stand with such a true champion here. I definitely gave it my all today, stepping

Obama calls jobs report 'not good enough'

Image
President Barack Obama called the last month's jobs report, which showed weak growth and over 350,000 people dropping out of the workforce, "not good enough" at a rally on Friday, meanwhile mocking Republicans' tax proposals and asking for another four years to accomplish his proposals. The unemployment rate fell in August from 8.3% to 8.1%, according to the Labor Department report issued Friday, but that slip was fueled by 368,000 people dropping out of the workforce.  The 96,000 jobs added is far below the generally accepted 150,000 needed to simply keep up with population growth, and Obama said that "there is a lot more that we can do." "We need to create more jobs faster. We need to fill the hole left by this recession faster. We need to come out of this crisis stronger than when we went in," Obama told voters in Plymouth, New Hampshire. "When Congress gets back to town next week," he continued, &quo
