Thiago Silva holds back tears as he announces exit from Chelsea after four years at club

  Thiago Silva has announced he will leave Chelsea at the end of the season. The Brazilian football star, Silva, 39, joined the Premier League side on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2020 and has made 151 appearances, winning the Champions League, Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. He was substituted in the 90th minute during Chelsea's 2-2 draw at Aston Villa last Saturday with a groin injury, raising the possibility that it was his last appearance for the club. In an emotional message to supporters on Monday, April 29, Silva said he hoped to return to the club "in another role" soon: "Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years. Not just for me but for my family, too.   "My sons play for Chelsea so it's a source of great pride to be a part of the Chelsea family - literally because my sons are here. EPL: Ake confident Man City can beat Arsenal in title race

  Nathan Ake is confident Manchester City will hold their nerve to overhaul Arsenal in the tension-filled Premier League title race. City closed the gap on leaders Arsenal to one point with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland on Sunday. But the Gunners can reopen a four-point lead over City if they beat Bournemouth on Saturday, before the champions return to action at home to Wolves later the same day. Although some believe having to come from behind in a title race is more mentally demanding, City defender Ake believes the advantage is with his team.  While Arsenal hold pole position at present, Pep Guardiola’s side know they will be champions for an unprecedented fourth successive season if they win their last five games 

Obaseki increases minimum wage to N70k

  Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has announced a new  minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants .  The governor made this known on Monday, while inaugurating the Labour House. Obaseki named the Labour House after Adams Oshiomhole, Senator representing Edo North, and former governor of the state. The new minimum wage regime in Edo will take effect from May 1, 2024,” the governor said. Recall the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, have been pushing for a new minimum wage for workers across states. This is coming on the heels of the hardship occasioned by the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The removal of subsidy on petrol and unification of the forex windows in 2023, immediately led to food inflation and a spike in the prices of other goods and services. Gunmen assassinate Governor Aiyedatiwa's campaign coordinator in Ondo

  Unknown gunmen have killed Alaba Excel Abbey, one of the campaign coordinators of the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.   It was gathered that Abbey was also the Returning Officer for Ward 10 in Supare Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State in the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election.   The deceased who served as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF), was shot dead in front of his house.   The deceased’s elder brother, Samuel Abbey, who confirmed the incident to Leadership, said Alaba was assassinated around 9 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024, shortly after returning home.    In a statement released by its State Information Director, Mr Kayode Fasua, the group revealed that the late Abbey was actively involved in campaigning for the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa until his untimely demise.   Spokesperson for the State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya sai

Mohbad's father pastes notice for DNA test on his daughter-in-law Wunmi's gate

  Joseph Aloba, the father of late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has served his late son's wife, Wunmi, a notice of the pending DNA test application to be carried out on her son, Liam.   He pasted the document on the gate of her last known address earlier today, April 26. This comes after the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu granted the court order last week Monday, April 15.   Based on the order, Wunmi is expected to be in court on May 14, 2024. The family of Aloba, through Mohbad’s father, had filed a suit seeking a DNA test for his grandson, Liam.

  Nigerian chess champion, Tunde Onakoya has revealed that someone bought a house for his parents.   While thanking the person who bought the house, Onakoya disclosed that his mum worked as a cleaner so he could get an education, while his dad worked as a danfo driver so they could feed and survive. He added that the house bought for his parents is the “single greatest thing” anyone will ever do for him.

Lagos state govt threatens to shut down Indian school that admits only Indian nationals

  The Lagos State Government has threatened to shut down an Indian Language School operating in the Ilupeju area in the state that only admits Indian nationals.     Nigerians during the week called out the school for ‘racially’ depriving Nigerian children from attending the school and asked the Lagos state government to investigate and shut down the school.   This is coming in the wake of the Abuja Chinese supermarket incident which saw the store closed fir refusing to allow Nigerians to shop from them.   While speaking at the Ministerial Briefing on the first year anniversary of the second term of Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, held at Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday, April 25, the state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, said the state government might wield the big stick against the Indian school in Ilupeju if its investigation finds them culpable.   “Officials of the state Ministry of Education have visited the school and investigation is
