May D performs P-Square’s songs at Felabration

He may have parted ways with his former bosses Psquare, but it seems like Akinmayokun May D Awodumila hasn’t moved on as the pop singer still performs his former labelmate’s songs.
During his performance at the recently held Felabration 2012, at the New Afrika Shrine on Friday, October 19, the pop singer kicked off his performance with Psquare’s ‘Do as I do‘ which features Tiwa Savage and himself.
He then goes on to perform his first single ‘Soundtrack‘ before following with Psquare’s ‘Chop my money‘. He wrapped up his set with his hit single ‘Ile Ijo‘.
What was more surprising was that the pop singer didn’t just perform his own cameo verses off the Psquare songs but the entire songs. The crowd however still seemed to be thrilled as they danced away.
In August 2012, May D cut ties with Psquare after the label boss Jude Okoye released a statement that he had been dropped from Square Records. A month later, the gangly singer announced the launch of his new label Confam Entertainment.

Martins Hails Keshi As The Special One

Levante of Spain striker Obafemi Martins has heaped plaudits on the Super Eagles for mauling Liberia 6-1 in Calabar last Saturday to qualify for next year's Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.Martins is particularly pleased with the work the team's gaffer,Stephen Keshi has done in transforming the Eagles to a scintillating team Nigerians saw on Saturday.
“They deserve all the accolades they got from everybody and I want to add my voice to that. They did the unthinkable, scoring six times against a team that forced them to a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
“The result will not only bring confidence back to the fold but also shows that Stephen Keshi is really working hard to see that Nigeria reclaims her rightful position on the world map”,he said. While optimistic of getting a recall to the Eagles,Martins says he still has plenty of room for improvement at his new club after scoring two goals in his first three games. The 27-year-old striker who joined the La Liga side on a two-year deal on a free transfer after Rubin Kazan agreed to terminate his contract before its expiration date warned his side's rivals that they can expect plenty more fireworks once he reaches full fitness
"I'm getting used to each player on a daily basis and I’m much quicker in front of goal now,” he began in a chat with Complete Sports.
"I'm very confident that I will score more goals with Levante this season and this could start against Getafe on Sunday".

Tiwa Savage and manager in public display of affection…Are they officially dating?

Tiwa Savage is one of Nigeria’s most talented singers and songwriters.
That she is beautiful is no news. She is an embodiment of sexiness and has a captivating aura and personality.
Until recently Tiwa Savage had not been linked romantically with anyone, except if you count the rumoured-but -vehemently-denied relationship with Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy.
Is that is about to change?
The Mavin first lady was seen at the Elite Model Look 2012 recently held in Lagos in company of her beau Manager Tee Billz, and the pair looked like an Item – eye witnesses say they both stepped on the red carpet in style as they posed for photographs.
Tiwa is usually alone on the red carpet so it really was a big deal this time, since she had company, as all attention quickly shifted to the couple, and the cameramen kept clicking away.
Tiwa Savage and her manger Tee Billz seemed to enjoy all the attention, and he may have used that opportunity to pass on a message as she planted a soft kiss on Tiwa’s cheek, whose face lit up instantly.
We’re told they did not spend a moment away from each other during the event and the after party.
Is this a confirmation of what many have been suspecting? Or just an innocent PDA between two people who work very closely and are fond of each other?

Lagos turns Fela’s home into Kalakuta Republic Museum

The Lagos State Government has turned the house of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti, into a museum to “promote cultural heritage and mark the 74th birthday” of the legendary musician.
Inside the museum located at 8, Gbemisola Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, to be and managed by Total Consult, are Fela’s trademark items like dresses, shoes and household materials.
The dresses are about 3,000.
Others include covers of the albums of the late musician.
Images on the album covers bear a variety of styles and typefaces which echo and comment on the works and politics of the artiste.
According to the state Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-Government Relations, Mr. Disun Holloway, the Kalakuta Republic Museum is to bring back the old social life and culture to Lagos.
He noted that it was impossible to overstate the importance of Fela to Lagos and the global musical village.
He said, “It is only appropriate to have chosen a day as this to declare this monument open today to mark the 74th posthumous birthday of the legendary musician. It is also the beginning of Felabration – a weeklong series of festivities to celebrate a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician, human activist, tourism stakeholder and political maverick.
“This is a deliberate attempt at bringing the old social life back to Lagos through the creation of places of relaxation within safe and secure environment. As demonstrated by the involvement of the state government in this museum, it is pertinent to reiterate our commitment towards boosting tourism.”
Speaking on behalf of the family, Femi, son of late Fela Kuti, hailed the state government for its support.
He, however, said the museum would only serve its value if the legacies his father fought for were brought to the reality.
He urged government at all levels to rise and foster equality and eradicate poverty in the country.
He added, “We say a big ‘Thank You’ to the Lagos State government. We are not one that supports any government but ensure that all is well for the citizens. I sincerely commend Governor Fashola who has stood out to be recognised with this.
“This would serve as a step forward if the cause my father fought for is achieved. The issues of poverty, electricity, education and many other vital ones aimed at making the nation a pillar for envy. Our children should be able to see the vision of pan-africanism through the struggle of my father. When we eradicate poverty and our value increases, then we can say we have value and reason to celebrate our coming generations.”
A former Minister of Planning, Chief Rasaheed Gbadamosi, was a friend of Fela, described the museum as ‘a memory brought alive’.
He said Fela was a true definition of democracy and an icon for equality.
He said, “This brings a lot of memory. It replaces the bad moment when we lost Fela. It clearly shows that while we lost Fela, his remains should always give us hope that goodness will return.”
Also, the curator of the museum, Mr. Lemi Gharioku, said the museum was a deserved one as it would preserve the legacy of the icon.
He added, “More can be done to celebrate the hero who demonstrated persistency despite all odds and threats. Fela has been recognised internationally, and is worth to be celebrated in his state and country where he fought for liberation, transparency and equality of all people.”
Also at the event were Fela’s other children that include Yeni and Seun; and founder of Evergreen Music, Mr. Femi Esho.

UNIPORT FOUR: Victims not armed robbers – IGP

The Inspector General of police  Mohammed Abubakar has revealed that the four students of the University of Port Harcourt,  who were gruesomely killed by a mob in Aluu, a community in Rivers State on 5th  October were not armed robbers.
The IGP, in a statement issued Monday in Abuja  explained that findings have shown that the victims were not armed robbers but had gone to the area where they met their unfortunate death to demand for money allegedly owed to them by one Coxson Lelebori Lucky, alias ‘Bright’, who raised a false alarm that the victims were armed robbers.
The statement noted that Coxson has gone underground, even as it  stressed that detectives were on his trail. “Intelligence report also implicated Alhaji Hassan Welewa, as being the person who incited the mob to unleash terror on the victims.
Further investigation conducted by the police indicates that four (4) suspects, namely: Felemo Solomon; Cynthia Chinwo; Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Samuel Evans have been closely linked to this barbarous act. Investigation is ongoing with efforts being intensified to track down others who are involved in the incident. Those who are found culpable shall be prosecuted”, the statement read.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger aims to sign new striker in January transfer window

Arsène Wenger has asked his network of scouts to search for another new striker ahead of the January transfer window as Arsenal continue the process of replacing Robin van Persie.

Although encouraged at how the goals have been spread more evenly around the team this season, Wenger would ideally still like further back-up to Olivier Giroud as the main centre-forward in his 4-2-3-1 system.
Wenger has specifically told his scouts to be on the look-out for potential new attacking options over the coming months, with Fernando Llorente, Adrián López, Robert Lewandowski and Stevan Jovetic among those being monitored.
The interest in signing another striker reflects an understanding that Giroud cannot be expected to instantly adapt to the Premier League, although his development over the next three months will inform how Wenger approaches the January market. Giroud scored his first Premier League goal in the 3-1 win at West Ham on Saturday but there is a sense that he was signed as the long-term alternative to Van Persie, rather than as the Dutchman’s immediate replacement.

Facebook Celebrates 1 Billion People

Facebook just reached 1 Billion members. A pretty amazing feat when you consider it's only been around for 8 short years. During that time it has completely changed the world we live in...well at least for the small niche billion of us who use it.
But that makes it as good a time as any to reflect on how we use such a powerful tool. Over the past decade we've probably seen more vices than virtues on display regarding our use of social networks. But, like a young student with anything new, it can take some trial and error before one starts getting it right. And no matter what kind of expert you are on online social networking, we're all young students at it.
One thing's for sure, however, it's not going away. The way we share and connect with each other has been changed forever. But, while the technology and format may be very new, the point of it all is not.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, says this about it:
"For the first time in our history, we’ve made a brand video to express what our place is on this earth. We believe that the need to open up and connect is what makes us human. It’s what brings us together. It’s what brings meaning to our lives. Facebook isn’t the first thing people have made to help us connect. We belong to a rich tradition of people making things that bring us together."
“Today, we honor this tradition. We honor the humanity of the people we serve. We honor the everyday things people have always made to bring us together: Chairs, doorbells, airplanes, bridges, games. These are all things that connect us. And now Facebook is a part of this tradition of things that connect us too.
